Love Alberta Forests
Interactive Design
Background
Love Alberta Forests is a province-wide awareness campaign celebrating the relationship between Albertans and their forests. The campaign showcases the benefits Alberta forests provide and the care Albertans take to sustain them.
Problem
The original website featured rich content—stories, stunning photography, and videos. But users often overlooked the written content. The challenge was to create a visually engaging narrative that encouraged readers to explore the content.
Approach
Combining Video & Text: Inspired by journalistic storytelling, we combined long-form text with looping videos, breaking content into manageable sections overlaid onto dynamic visuals.
Illustration & Motion: Used conceptual illustrations and motion to enhance sections without images or videos, visually communicating stories like planting three trees for every one cut.
Simple Transitions: Designed lightweight transitions to differentiate sections without complicating development, ensuring a cohesive and unique user experience.
Typography as a Narrative Tool: Leveraged bold typography to communicate key stories and elevate the editorial design.
Circular Navigation: Introduced a circular menu inspired by tree rings for seamless navigation and continuous scrolling, optimized for both desktop and mobile.
Outcome
The microsite received positive feedback for its immersive design and storytelling. By blending typography, motion, and editorial layouts, we transformed the site into a captivating experience, effectively showcasing Alberta’s forests and their significance to Albertans.
